Southeast
The center of the local petrochemical, manufacturing and shipping industries, southeast Houston encompasses the Houston Ship Channel and oil and chemical plants. The area is known for providing a quality lifestyle for the thousands of skilled laborers and managers for this industrial base.
Included in the Southeast area is Pasadena, Deer Park and La Porte.
Pasadena is about 18 miles from downtown Houston with a population of around 150,000. Home prices range from the $80's and up with homes varying in age from new to 60 years. South of Pasadena lies the Sagemont district and Green Tee Terrace. The Sagemont district is characterized mostly by single family residences from the $50's to $150's.. Green Terrace, an adjoining country club addition, offers custom homes from the $150's to $350's.
Deer Park, with a population of approximately 30,000, offers very affordably priced, single-family homes from $80,000 all the way up to $500,000. Taxes are lower than other areas due to local industry support of the school systems.
Further east is La Porte, considered for years to be a vacation-home community. Morgan's Point is nearby. As might be expected, weekend beach homes contribute to the interesting variety of residences here. Homes are priced from the $80's to multi-million dollar estates. To La Porte's south is Bayport where more than 60 companies, including chemical and petrochemical manufactures are located.
